How To Care For Your Plants On Arrival

Potted Plants

Potted Plants
Our 9cm and 2lt potted perennial and shrub plants are well-rooted with strong and established root systems and are ready to be planted straight out into the garden or larger containers.

Unpack immediately once received and stand in a bright position outdoors. If dry water, either overhead or by standing in water, until the compost is fully moist again.

All these plants have been grown outside in the UK and are therefore hardened off and ready for growing outdoors. If you are planting in your borders, prepare the ground well, removing any perennial weeds. Unless the soil is already rich, dig in well-rotted manure or compost and, if it is heavy or inclined to be poorly drained, add plenty of sharp sand or grit. When you plant make sure the rootballs are thoroughly moist, then plant so the top of the rootball is at the same level as the soil surface. Finish off by watering to settle them in. For optimum flowering, either incorporate some slow-release fertiliser at this time or feed occasionally through the season. Keep plants well-watered until they are fully established.

Keep your plants free of weeds at all times and water well in dry spells until they are fully established. Slugs and snails are a major threat to the young growth of many plants and appropriate precautions should be taken.

Many of our larger potted 9cm and 2lt varieties will arrive with their own individual labels with additional care information on.
