Ball and Pompon flowered varieties of dahlia are wonderful for mixing with some of the larger flowered blooms from the decorative and cactus types. The flowers are totally round and made up of many tightly packed and semi-furled petals. The flower size varies but as a rule a pompon measures up to 5cm/2in a miniature ball up to 10cm/4in and a small ball up to 15cm. Easy to grow and a little shorter in height with a neat and bushy habit you hardly ever need to stake any of these. Plant in fertile well-drained but moist soil in full sun.
