Eucomis Sparkling Burgundy
These Eucomis (pineapple flowers) are very impressive with spikes of burgundy red buds opening to star-shaped rose pink flowers from midsummer to September. The foliage looks good too forming a rosette of purple flushed leaves. Great for the border and excellent for patio containers. The seed heads look very pretty too.
Plant Class: Half Hardy Perennial (HHP)
Habit: Upright
Early/Late Flowering:
Plant Eucomis bulbs in a sunny position, 15cm/6in deep to help prevent frost damage. To achieve a good display, water regularly during the growing season and don't allow them to dry out. In winter, protect the bulbs with a thick layer of mulch or lift them and store in a frost free place, such as a greenhouse or shed.
